What is HOCl?:
HOCl is the scientific formula for hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a weak acid, formed from the reaction of chlorine with water. It is a powerful oxidant that is effective against invading bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
It was discovered by a French chemist Antoine Jerome Balard in the year 1834. It is an oxyacid of chlorine. It contains monovalent chlorine that functions as a reducing agent or an oxidizing agent. It is an unstable acid and functions as a human metabolite. HOCl is already being used in healthcare, food safety, water treatment, and general sanitation. It is suggested that HOCL is 80 to 120 times more efficacious than sodium hypochlorite.

How it works?: Generating HOCl from the electro-chemical activation (ECA) of salt water was developed in the 1970s. Early ECA technology used membranes to force saltwater into two solutions of HOCl and NaOH. In recent, single stream systems have been innovated to last longer and generate more stable HOCl solutions. It is specially formulated to achieve surface and airborne disinfection. It does not require rooms to be sealed or excluded from use for long periods of time. It oxidizes the internal microbial cellular organic matter, destroying them completely and gets diffused rapidly compared to hypochlorite ions which are negatively charged and are unable to penetrate the cell walls.
In aqueous solution, HOCl dissociates into H+ and OCl–, denaturing and aggregating proteins. HOCl also destroys viruses by chlorination by forming chloramines and nitrogen-centered radicals, resulting in single as well as double stranded DNA breaks, rendering the nucleic acid useless and the virus harmless.
